DRAWING COURSES

FALL BOOTCAMP - Drawing The Face & Head
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Begins September 6, 2018
Central West End Studio

Age Groups (2):

12-16, 17-adult

One 2-hour class each Thursday in September over 4 weeks
6-8 PM
$219.00 (excluding supplies)

In this course, students will learn how to draw an accurate likeness of the human face. Class lectures and demonstrations will illustrate the basic geometric structures of the skull and facial features, and emphasize the importance of correct proportion and consistent angle of view in a well-constructed portrait. This material will encompass the structural generalities of the human face – the features we all share – and ways in which they can be adjusted to capture the likeness of any particular individual. We will not cover color or color theory, but rather focus on value in black and white. Tools utilized will primarily include compressed charcoal, vine charcoal, conté, erasers, blending stumps and newsprint.

Space is limited and we close classes once they've reached capacity. To reserve your spot, click below.

FALL MASTER CLASS SERIES - Human Form
Intermediate Level
3-Month Series begins August 2018
Central West End Studio

Age Groups (2):

12-16, 17-adult

Consists primarily of 1-hour classes on Wednesdays over 3 months
6-7 PM
By invitation or portfolio review only.
$392.00 (excluding supplies)

The Master Series will run approximately from August through October, consisting mainly of 1-hour group classes. The series will cover skeletal and muscle structure of the human form, done so in a tactful manner. Material covered tends to derive from artist anatomy books.

We will plan several field trips over the series, including a trip to sketch at the St. Louis Zoo, and a field trip to the St. Louis Art Museum to sketch. Obviously, these sessions would be several hours long and would require additional logistics.

Medium-wise, we will work with charcoal on newsprint in addition to sketchbooks, pencils, and pens.
